Whataburger! You’ve
heard the commercials
and soon you can buy
your own here in Buda.
Whataburger did receive
a positive response from
the Buda Zoning Board of
Adjustments for their
request to operate 24
hours a day in the
former Culver’s
location. Whataburger
will be doing extensive
remodeling to the
building and will be
open soon. Oh, since we
are talking food…Burger
King continues
construction of their
new facility along the
northbound frontage of
IH 35 near FM 2001.
I’m sure you noticed
more road construction
here in the Buda
“metroplex”. We all
know about the new
bridge at Main Street
and IH 35 and the new
bridge underway to serve
the Buda truck bypass
known as “Robert S.
Light Boulevard”.
Drive carefully at the
FM 2001/IH 35 area as
construction continues
on “Overpass Road”.
The crew has done a
great job with the first
half of that project and
the second part is well
underway.
Formula 1 racing in
Elroy? Yes, you heard
me correctly. The
Formula 1 group in
Austin being supported
by Mr. Red McCombs, did
announce this week that
the new track would be
built along FM 812 in
Elroy. I drove to the
track location this week
and checked the
mileage. It’s only a
short 16 miles “on the
dot” from here to there
via SH 45 and SH 130.
Should be a great
economic engine for our
Buda hotels and
restaurants when opened
in 2012.
Get on board with the
Austin Community College
(ACC) annexation
election effort. ACC
recently announced the
purchase of about 96
acres in the Plum Creek
development along FM
1626 as the site of a
future campus for
Northern Hays County.
Of course, this campus
doesn’t happen without a
positive vote to the
annexation question on
the ballot this
November. Please
contact the Buda or Kyle
Chamber of Commerce for
more information about
how you can get
involved. For “one on
one” issues please
contact the Steering
Committee Co-chairs for
this effort, Mr. Terry
Mazurek in Buda or Mr.
Vince Collier in Kyle.
Please get informed and
involved in YOUR
community. There are
many opportunities to do
so. The City of Buda
has many boards and
commissions with
openings at various
times throughout the
year. Please contact
City Secretary Toni
Milam at 512-312-0084 to
inquire.
